Review by Ben M. 2022/03/21 Shishido Hills provides plenty of entertainment and is well worth a visit. The eastern course is a magnificent forest course and in my mind- the best of the two, mature and visually stunning, especially in the afternoon. The course has a typical Japanese design with lots of strategic bunkering and wider fairways. Longer hitters will feel well-loved on this course as most of the fairway bunkers finish around 240-250 yards, the greens are large and like the rest of the course are well maintained, so scoring on this 18 is a lot easier. The west course is a full-scale champion course where the Japan Golf Tour Championship Shishido Hills Cup is held. As you would imagine, this is the more challenging of the two, but with a variety of tee options; can be enjoyed by all levels of golfers. If you can play in the lead-up to the tour championship in (May) you can experience the full professional tournament course setup including 8-inch rough!. Weekend tee times are near impossible to get, but weekdays stay and play are no problem. The clubhouse is large and offers traditional Japanese fare, there are cottages available for overnight stays, which is advisable as it takes about a 2.5 hour drive from Tokyo.
